Canon 5D mkII.jpg

Canon 5D mkII: This was the first camera I ever bought and it’s still going strong.  This was the first DSLR that really exploded onto the film and video scene and has an impressive resume of features, television shows and commercials that have been shot on it.  It still has the largest sensor of any Canon DSLR to date at 21.1-megapixels, which is even larger than a Super 35 sensor and allows you to get very shallow depth of field.  It also has a huge number of accessory options, as this was THE indie camera of choice for a good amount of time.  Aside from the video, it takes fantastic hi-resolution still images and works with the Magic Lantern hack, although it is way more finicky than working with the hack on the mkIII.  Overall, the 5D mkII is a solid camera that definitely still has a place on the market even after a long run.  Rate: $100 per day
